Ahoi Ashtami, a festival celebrated with joy and devotion across North India, falls approximately eight days before Diwali Puja and four days after Karwa Chauth. This special day is dedicated to mothers who fast for the well-being and prosperity of their children.

Ahoi Ashtami 2024: Fasting and Rituals

Ahoi Ashtami is observed four days after Karwa Chauth, where mothers pray for their children’s health and happiness. Similar to Karwa Chauth, mothers observe a strict fast, refraining from food and water from sunrise until they sight the stars in the evening, or in some cases, the moon. The day-long fast is broken after completing the aarti and puja to Goddess Ahoi Ashtami Bhagwati, a re-incarnation of Goddess Parvati, who is worshiped for protecting their children.

Originally, the fast was observed for the well-being of sons, but today it is performed for both sons and daughters.

Ahoi Ashtami 2024: Date, Timings, And Shubh Muhurat

In 2024, Ahoi Ashtami will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24. Below are the important timings for the day:

Puja Muhurat: 5:50 PM to 7:07 PM (1 hour 17 minutes)

    Star Sighting Time: 6:14 PM

Ashtami Tithi Begins: 1:18 AM on October 24, 2024

Ashtami Tithi Ends: 1:58 AM on October 25, 2024

Mothers rise early to begin their fast, partake in a pre-dawn meal, and spend the day in prayers, seeking blessings from Goddess Ahoi Ashtami Bhagwati for their children’s health and happiness.

Make sure to mark your calendars for this auspicious day to offer prayers for your children and celebrate Ahoi Ashtami 2024 with devotion and joy!

NZ W vs IND W ODI Series: After winning the title of Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, New Zealand women’s cricket team is going to tour India. During this, both the countries will play a series of 3 ODI matches from 24 to 29 October. The Indian team has already announced its team for this series, and now New Zealand has also announced its 15-member squad for this series.

Let us tell you that due to her good performance in both the roles of batsman and wicketkeeper for Otago Sparks and New Zealand A in the Women’s Super Smash, 28-year-old Polly Inglis has been included in the squad for this series. He was included in the central contract for the first time earlier in June.

New Zealand women’s team head coach Ben Sawyer said in a statement, “We are very excited about Polly’s first tour. She performed brilliantly last season.” Lauren Down has also returned to the team after international cricket resumed in July after maternity leave. Rosemary Mair, who suffered from back pain earlier this year, has been given rest. Sawyer said, “The visit to India is very important. This is a very special place and I know everyone is looking forward to the challenge ahead. This tour is also important from the point of view of preparation for the ODI World Cup to be held in India next year.

New Zealand women’s ODI team for India tour:

New Zealand women’s ODI team: Sophie Devine (captain), Suzie Bates, Eden Carson, Lauren Down, Izzy Gaze, Mady Green, Brooke Halliday, Polly Inglis (wk), Fran Jonas, Jess Kerr, Mellie Kerr, Molly Penfold, Georgia Plimmer, Hannah Rowe, Lee Tahuhu.

The Indian team led by Harmanpreet Kaur won the series 4-1. However, recently in the T20 World Cup, New Zealand gave a big blow to the hopes of reaching the semi-finals by defeating India by a huge margin of 58 runs. New Zealand, who came to bat first, scored 160 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs. India had a target of 161 runs, but the Indian team was limited to just 102 runs in 19 overs. In this way the Indian team had to face defeat by a huge margin of 58 runs.

Israeli Cabinet ministers have been briefed on an imminent counter-attack against Iran, with the operation expected to occur “very soon,” according to state media cited by IANS. During a Sunday Cabinet meeting, officials were informed that the attack would be both “very soon” and of considerable scale, as reported by Xinhua, citing Israel’s state-owned Kan TV.

The report came on Monday, just hours after US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin revealed the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-ballistic missile system to Israel, along with approximately 100 US soldiers to operate it.

US President Joe Biden has called on Israel to exercise restraint to prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East, expressing concerns over potential strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and energy infrastructure.

  • Bahraich Violence: SC To Hear Plea By Accused Against Demolition Notices Issued By UP Govt |

New Delhi: The Supreme Court agreed to hear on Wednesday a plea filed by three accused in the Bahraich communal violence incident against demolition notices issued by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Senior advocate C U Singh, appearing for the petitioners, mentioned the matter before a bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan seeking urgent hearing.

“This is an application by three persons who are recipients of demolition notices. The state government has given only three days to respond to the notices,” Singh told the bench.

Singh submitted that petitioner No.1’s father and brothers have surrendered and notices were purportedly issued on October 17 and pasted on 18th evening.

“We sought hearing on Sunday, but that did not happen,” he added.

Additional Solicitor General K M Nataraj, appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government, told the court that the Allahabad High Court is seized of the matter and has given 15 days’ time to respond to the notice.

The bench then said, “If they (UP govt) want to take risk of flouting our order, it’s their choice.”

The counsel for the petitioners said no protection has been granted by the high court.

The apex court then orally asked the ASG not to take any action till Wednesday and posted the matter for hearing.

  • Harvey Weinstein said to have bone marrow cancer

Disgraced Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer, according to numerous outlets. NBC News was first among them.

Weinstein, 72, has chronic myeloid leukemia and is undergoing treatment behind bars in Rikers Island, the reports say, citing sources.

Chronic myeloid leukemia is a rare type of cancer of the bone marrow, the Mayo Clinic says.

His reported diagnosis is the latest in a string of health issues for the once-powerful entertainment mogul, who appeared pale and visibly frail during a brief court appearance in September.

He underwent emergency heart surgery last month, after which his representative said he was “out of danger at the moment.”

A statement provided to CBS News by Weinstein spokesperson Juda Engelmayer says, “Craig Rothfeld, Mr. Weinstein’s authorized legal healthcare representative in New York state, expresses “profound dismay at the speculation surrounding Mr. Weinstein’s medical condition. It is both troubling and unacceptable that such private and confidential health matters have become a subject of public discourse. Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will offer no further comment.”

Weinstein is serving a 16-year prison sentence after being convicted on rape charges in California.

He was also convicted in New York in 2020 of the rape and sexual assault of an actress and of forcibly performing oral sex on a production assistant. Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in that case.

However, a New York appeals court overturned the verdict in April, ruling that the trial judge had allowed testimony in error from accusers who weren’t directly involved with the charges Weinstein was facing.

A retrial in the case had been slated for November, though prosecutors have deemed that “unrealistic.”

Allegations against Weinstein helped launch the #MeToo movement in 2017, a watershed moment for women fighting sexual misconduct.

More than 80 women have accused him of harassment, sexual assault or rape, including prominent actors Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ashley Judd.

Weinstein has claimed any sexual relations in question were consensual.

In 1979, Weinstein and his brother Bob co-founded prominent Hollywood studio Miramax Films.

Their hits included 1994’s “Pulp Fiction” and 1998’s “Shakespeare in Love,” for which Weinstein shared a best picture Oscar.
