    Meanwhile, Kalpana Soren, the JMM leader and wife of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, filed her nomination as her party candidate from Gandey Assembly constituency on Thursday. Kalpana Soren is currently representing the Gandey constituency.

    She had won the constituency in a bypoll held in May this year by beating BJP’s Dilip Kumar Verma by a margin of 27,149 votes. The seat became vacant following the resignation of JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad.

    Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has released its first list of 35 candidates for the upcoming assembly polls in the state which are to be held in two phases on November 13 and 20.

    On the other hand, Himanta Biswa Sarma who was in Jamshedpur as part of the poll campaign attacked the current government and said People will teach this govt (state) a lesson.
    “There is an environment of enthusiasm and excitement among the people. We will win all four seats of Jamshedpur with big margins. People will teach this govt (state) a lesson… NDA will form the govt under the leadership of PM Modi. It’s not my work to estimate the number of seats that we will win, I think we will win 81 seats,” said Himanta.

    The Assembly elections in Jharkhand will be held in two phases on November 13 and November 20 and votes will be counted on November 23.

    As footage of Harris flashes on screen, he adds: “She shows a lot of empathy when she speaks. Her actions — Kamala’s strong, she’s powerful. She stern, she means everything that she says. This November, I’m standing with Kamala.”

    The ad is set to air during local broadcasts of Philadelphia 76ers NBA basketball games, and during local cable ad breaks during TNT coverage of NBA games and its popular “Inside the NBA” pregame show, as well as on networks popular with Black viewers, including BET, OWN, and VH1. The ad is part of an ongoing $370 million national ad campaign that stretches from Labor Day to Election Day.

    The message is clearly tailored to reach Black men in Pennsylvania — and any other man who may be wary of supporting a woman as the next president. (The Harris campaign officially calls them “persuadable voters.”) The spot comes as Harris trails former President Donald Trump among men by double digits in some recent polls and amid signs he’s chipping away at traditionally strong support for the Democratic Party among Black voters. Failure to sustain high levels of minority voter support in Pennsylvania could cost Harris the state if she can’t make up those losses with other groups.

    India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar on Thursday raised serious concerns about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, also known as West Asia, during his address at the BRICS Outreach session in Kazan on Thursday. Representing Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the event, Jaishankar said that the widespread anxiety that the conflict could escalate further across the region, affecting global stability.

    “The situation in the Middle East, West Asia for us, is an understandable concern. There is a widespread anxiety that the conflict would spread further in the region,” he said. He highlighted the impact on maritime trade and warned of the severe human and material consequences if the situation worsens. Stressing the need for a fair and lasting resolution, he underlined the importance of a two-state solution to bring peace to the region.

    Jaishankar echoed Prime Minister Modi’s stance that “this is not an era of war” and called for disputes to be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. “Agreements, once reached, must be scrupulously respected. International law should be adhered to, without exception. And there should be zero tolerance for terrorism,” he added, pointing to India’s firm stance on conflict resolution and international cooperation.

    During his speech, Jaishankar outlined five key areas where global reforms are needed to create a more equitable world order. His points included: 1. Strengthening and expanding independent platforms to increase global choices and prevent leverage by powerful entities. 2. Reforming global institutions, particularly the United Nations Security Council, both in permanent and non-permanent categories. 3. Democratizing the global economy by creating more production hubs, reducing supply chain vulnerabilities. 4. Correcting infrastructure distortions by improving connectivity and logistics to mitigate risks. 5. Sharing experiences and initiatives that are of common global interest, including India’s Digital Public Infrastructure and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

    Jaishankar highlighted India’s leadership in global initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and the Global Biofuel Alliance. He stressed that India, as a “First Responder” to global crises, whether natural, health, or economic, is committed to doing its fair share in addressing global challenges.

    The plenary session, part of the 16th BRICS Summit in the BRICS-plus format, was attended by leaders from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as well as delegations from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and international organizations. .

    New Delhi: Amid the ongoing geo-political tensions, unchanged retail fuel prices amid the volatile oil prices will support overall returns for the industry, according to a report on Thursday. Operating profit will be higher than the $9-11 per barrel on average over the 10 years through fiscal 2025. This will partly support the continued substantial capital expenditure (capex) of Oil marketing companies (OMCs), said a CRISIL Ratings report.

    OMCs are projected to see operating profit drop to $12-14 per barrel in fiscal 2025 from $20 per barrel last fiscal. The moderation is expected as diesel spreads soften, discounts on Russian crude oil wane and the impact of inventory loss kicks in with crude oil price averaging $75 per barrel currently, down from $82 per barrel in the first half of the fiscal.

    According to Aditya Jhaver, Director, CRISIL Ratings, gross refining margin (GRMs) are seeing a steep correction this fiscal and are likely to average $3-5 per barrel, with diesel spreads evening out as refineries globally have ramped up production while consumption has slowed.

    “That said, overall returns will be bolstered by marketing margins (net of operating expenses) that are likely to continue at Rs 4.5 per litre (or $9 per barrel), factoring no reduction in retail fuel prices,” he noted. OMCs earn from two businesses — refining business and marketing business.

    While oil price declined 11 per cent on-year to average $83 per barrel in fiscal 2024, the fluctuation in inventory value had a marginal impact on overall GRM (reported at $12 per barrel). Core margins were healthy because of high diesel spreads with continued geopolitical uncertainties that disrupted the global energy supply chain keeping international prices high.

    Further, the largely unchanged retail fuel rates resulted in healthy marketing margins (net of operating expenses) of Rs 4 per litre or $8 per barrel, cumulating to an overall high profit of $20 per barrel for the year, the report mentioned.

    The consequent cumulative cash accrual, estimated at Rs 52,000-54,000 crore, will partially support the Rs 90,000 crore capex planned by OMCs. “While profits could moderate on-year, the industry is expected to continue with capex, which will partly be debt funded,” said Joanne Gonsalves, Associate Director, CRISIL Ratings.
