As the deadline for IPL 2025 retention looms large, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have stirred excitement among fans with an innovative social media puzzle. This cryptic announcement not only hints at their retained players but also encapsulates the underlying tension and anticipation that marks the IPL retention phase. With heavyweights like Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj expected to make the cut, let’s delve into the thrill surrounding RCB’s strategy and what it could mean for their future.

— Royal Challengers Bengaluru (@RCBTweets) October 30, 2024 A Teaser in the Form of a Puzzle
On October 30, 2024, RCB took to their social media platforms, particularly X, to challenge fans with a crossword puzzle. The post read, “The truth is not always what you see. It is actually what you want to see. Sneak peek alert! Our retentions are shrouded in mystery, waiting for you to uncover. Can you decipher the clues and crack the code?” This clever marketing tactic not only engages their loyal fan base but also builds hype around the upcoming IPL auction. Fans quickly began deciphering the jumbled names within the puzzle, identifying six potential retentions: Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, Glenn Maxwell, Rajat Patidar, Faf du Plessis, and Cameron Green. However, the catch lies in the IPL regulations, which limit each franchise to a maximum of five capped players and one uncapped player.
Here’s a likely price estimate for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) retained players for IPL 2025, based on previous contracts and market trends:
Likely Retention Prices for RCB Players
Virat Kohli: ₹16-18 crore
As a top player and previous captain, Kohli commands a significant salary. His past retention was around ₹17 crore.
Faf du Plessis: ₹10-12 crore
Having a strong season and leadership qualities, he is expected to be retained at a premium.
Glenn Maxwell: ₹11-13 crore
Maxwell’s all-rounder status and explosive batting make him a valuable asset.
Mohammed Siraj: ₹8-10 crore
With his impressive performances, particularly in the recent season, Siraj’s retention price is likely to reflect his importance to the bowling lineup.
Rajat Patidar: ₹6-8 crore
As a promising young talent, Patidar’s price will likely be within this range based on his potential and previous contributions.
Yash Dayal (Uncapped Player): ₹4 crore
Fixed retention price as per IPL rules for uncapped players.
Retention Dynamics and Strategic Implications
While the puzzle hints at possible retentions, the manner in which players’ names were presented raises eyebrows. Notably, Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar are listed by first names, whereas others are referred to by surnames. This discrepancy might suggest that RCB is leaning towards retaining only the four players named by their surnames. If the speculations hold true, RCB’s retention list will likely feature Kohli, Siraj, Maxwell, and Green, while Patidar and du Plessis could find themselves on the chopping block. This approach reflects RCB’s strategic shift as they aim to rebuild and enhance their squad depth ahead of IPL 2025, a season where they are determined to clinch the elusive trophy after 17 seasons of disappointment.
Star Performances from IPL 2024
Reflecting on the previous season, RCB’s journey was nothing short of dramatic. After a rocky start, losing seven out of eight matches, the team surged into the playoffs with a remarkable six-match winning streak. Kohli emerged as a standout performer, securing the Purple Cap with 741 runs in 15 matches, including a century and five fifties. His consistency and flair were pivotal in rekindling RCB’s hopes.
Alongside him, Faf du Plessis contributed significantly with 438 runs at an impressive strike rate, while Mohammed Siraj and Yash Dayal spearheaded the bowling attack, each claiming 15 wickets. Their performances were crucial in maintaining RCB’s competitive edge, underscoring the importance of retaining key players who can drive the team forward.

An Arizona man says police held him down on scorching asphalt while arresting him during the height of Phoenix’s summer heat wave, causing third-degree burns on his body.
Video obtained by CBS News from the man’s attorney shows Michael Kenyon talking on his cell phone walking in a parking lot on July 6 when police pull up in a Phoenix police truck. Two officers get out and Kenyon puts away his phone. Within a few minutes, they try to handcuff him and a struggle ensues. Two backup officers then arrive at the scene.
It appears from the video that the four officers push Kenyon onto the ground and hold him there. Officers then scuffle with Kenyon before he is finally handcuffed and the officers lift him from the asphalt and escort him into a police vehicle.
Kenyon’s attorney, Bobby DiCello, said he spent more than one month in the hospital after the incident recovering from burns from the asphalt.
When officers lifted Kenyon off the asphalt, his melted skin peeled off and fell to the ground, his attorney said. Police called an ambulance after an officer noticed his burns, police said.
“They held a man — another human being — on a surface so hot that it caused his skin to bubble and boil. It defies all reason,” DiCello said in a statement, adding his client was now “scarred for life.”
DiCello said the temperature that day was 114 degrees, with the asphalt estimated to be between 180 and 200 degrees. Phoenix hit 100 straight days with at least 100-degree temperatures during the summer. Arizona has the country’s only chief heat officer, and Maricopa County, where Phoenix is located, is the hottest metro area in the United States.
Phoenix police said officers responded to a call regarding a theft in progress. “Officers made contact with Kenyon, telling him he was being detained so they could understand what may have occurred. The man struggled with police, which resulted with him being taken to the ground on the hot asphalt. The man sustained burns to different parts of his body from the time he was on the ground,” police said in a statement to CBS News.
Police said Kenyon was determined not to be the robbery suspect they were searching for that day. Later when he was taken to the hospital, officers learned he had a felony warrant out for his arrest.
Phoenix police said their Professional Standards Bureau is investigating the incident.

Former US President Donald Trump climbed up a campaign-themed garbage truck in Wisconsin on Wednesday, seizing on President Joe Biden’s remarks in which he appeared to label Trump supporters as “garbage,” as reported by The Hill.
“How do you like my garbage truck? This truck is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden,” Trump said from the passenger seat, which featured a Trump campaign sticker and flag. His campaign staff widely circulated photos of the event as photographers captured the moment, The Hill reported.
The Trump campaign is working to leverage the outrage among his supporters over Biden’s comment, with Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris seeking to distance herself from it.
Biden faced backlash after he seemingly compared Trump supporters to ‘garbage’ while discussing a racially charged joke made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a Trump rally, which referred to Puerto Rico as an “island of garbage,” The Hill reported.
Following his remark, Biden inadvertently thrust him back into the political spotlight just a week before the US presidential elections.
Biden criticized the comedian’s description of Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage,” asserting that the people of Puerto Rico are “good, decent, and honorable.” However, his defense sparked a political uproar, detracting from Vice President Kamala Harris’s key closing speech on Tuesday evening, CNN reported.
“And just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico ‘a floating island of garbage.’ Well, let me tell you something… I don’t know the Puerto Rican that I know… or Puerto Rico where I’m–in my home state of Delaware–they’re good, decent, honorable people ,” Biden said during his virtual remarks in a get-out-the-vote call meant to help Harris.”
“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” Biden said, adding, “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and it’s un-American.”
The White House later clarified that Biden’s comments were misinterpreted, emphasizing that he was referring to the “garbage” rhetoric from the rally, not the supporters themselves. They provided a fuller transcript, which included punctuation to indicate he was commenting on Hinchcliffe’s remarks, as reported by The Hill.
Biden himself took to social media to explain that his use of “garbage” referred to the comments made about Puerto Rico, not to Trump’s supporters, as reported by CNN.
“Earlier today, I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporters at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage–which is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I. meant to say. The comments at that rally don’t reflect who we are as a nation,” Biden wrote on X.
Biden’s remarks drew immediate parallels to Hillary Clinton’s infamous “basket of deplorables” comment in 2016, which became a rallying cry for Trump and his supporters. In the aftermath, Harris felt compelled to address the controversy on Wednesday, emphasizing her belief in representing all voters, regardless of their political affiliations, as reported by CNN.
“Listen, I think, first of all, he clarified his comments, but let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” the Democratic nominee said.
“You heard my speech last night and continuously throughout my career. I believe that the work that I do is about representing all the people, whether they support me or not,” Harris added.
“I am sincere in what I mean: when elected president of the United States, I will represent all Americans, including those who don’t vote for me, and address their needs and their desires,” she further said.
