New Delhi/Hyderabad, March 7: The National Health Authority (NHA) celebrated the victors of the groundbreaking NHCX Hackathon during a dynamic two-day Innovation Meet at IIT Hyderabad. This event marked the culmination of a week-long competition that drew 112 innovative entries aimed at revolutionizing India’s health insurance claims ecosystem.

From February 22 to 28, teams tackled five critical challenges, developing digital solutions to streamline claims processing, enhance transparency, and eliminate paperwork entirely. The focus was on scalable tools like FHIR-based converters for legacy systems, clinical documents, and insurance plans, alongside business use cases for fraud detection and efficiency gains.

Finalists showcased their prototypes before an expert jury comprising representatives from IIT Hyderabad, NRCEH, GIC, Google, IIA, NHA, and others. Top three teams per track and problem statement were awarded, recognizing contributions from health-tech startups, insurtech firms, insurers, TPAs, PMJAY hospitals, HMIS vendors, academics, developers, students, and innovators.

NHCX, a key pillar of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), facilitates seamless exchange of claims data among hospitals, insurers, and patients. The hackathon, supported by partners like IRDAI, IIT Hyderabad, NRCEH, GIC, Google, IIB, NABH, IIA, and NatHealth, also launched initiatives like NHCX Champions, ABDM Ambassadors, and NHCX-PMJAY Early Integrators, honoring early adopters.

The event was inaugurated by NHA CEO Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, Andhra Pradesh Health Secretary Saurabh Gaur, AHPI Director General Dr. Girdhar Gyani, and IIT Hyderabad Dean Prof. G. Narhari Shastri, with IRDAI Chairman Ajay Seth as chief guest. These innovations promise to make health claims faster, fairer, and fully digital, transforming access to care for millions.
