Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu is buzzing with anticipation as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) prepares to host its 12th state conference on March 9 at Siruganur. This grand event, spread across a sprawling 20 lakh square feet venue, is set to inject fresh vigor into the party’s rank and file ahead of crucial assembly elections.
Preparations are in full swing, with roads leading to the site adorned with party flags and banners, signaling the scale of the ruling party’s commitment. Party leaders expect an influx of workers from across Tamil Nadu, turning the venue into a sea of green and red.
Traffic authorities have rolled out extensive measures to manage the expected 24,000 vehicles, including special diversions in Tiruchirappalli and surrounding areas to ensure smooth flow and prevent congestion.
Senior Minister and DMK principal secretary KN Nehru told reporters that the party anticipates over 10 lakh participants. ‘This conference will fortify our unity and prepare our cadres for upcoming political battles,’ he stated, drawing parallels to the 2021 event at the same location that galvanized supporters before the assembly polls.
Back then, DMK president and current Chief Minister MK Stalin, as the chief ministerial candidate, outlined a visionary roadmap for Tamil Nadu’s growth. Expectations are high for similar big announcements this time, potentially shaping the party’s electoral strategy.
The event holds strategic importance for bolstering DMK’s dominance in central Tamil Nadu and the Cauvery Delta, regions where it swept 37 of 41 seats in 2021, including all nine in Tiruchirappalli district.
Veteran party worker and former councillor T Durgadevi highlighted the historic crowds at Tiruchirappalli conferences, from Karunanidhi’s era to Stalin’s leadership. These gatherings have traditionally drawn massive turnouts, underscoring the venue’s legacy in DMK’s organizational history.
As the date approaches, the conference promises to be a pivotal moment, reinforcing organizational strength and rallying supporters for future victories.
