In the high-stakes world of T20 cricket, tough calls define champions. As India gears up for the ICC T20 World Cup final against New Zealand at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has thrown his weight behind underperforming stars Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakaravarthy.

Chopra, known for his sharp insights, unveiled his predicted playing XI via a video on his X profile. With India already in the final, he argues against any last-minute changes. ‘You’ve reached the final, so why tinker now?’ he questioned, emphasizing continuity over knee-jerk reactions.

Despite Abhishek’s struggles—averaging just 12.71 with 89 runs in seven innings, including three ducks against USA, Pakistan, and Netherlands—Chopra remains steadfast. The opener shone once with 55 against Zimbabwe but has faltered since. Still, Chopra highlights his status as the world’s No. 1 T20 batter, a ranking that demands respect.

Varun Chakaravarthy presents a similar dilemma. The spinner dazzled in the group stage but leaked runs in Super 8s and the semifinal, conceding 64 in four overs against England. Temptation to slot in Kuldeep Yadav looms large, yet Chopra favors Varun for his unique skills. ‘One day it all changes,’ he noted, advocating for the unchanged XI.

Chopra’s lineup reads: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh.

This bold stance underscores a key cricket philosophy: trust your selections in crunch time. As the final approaches, India’s management faces a pivotal decision—stick or twist? Chopra’s vote is clear: back the boys who’ve carried the team this far.
