In a nail-biting T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final clash against England, India’s Hardik Pandya delivered a moment of pure magic that sealed a thrilling 7-run victory. England’s young gun Jacob Bethell had smashed a defiant century, pushing his team closer to an improbable chase. But with 30 runs needed off the final over, Pandya’s sharp fielding turned the tide.

Bethell cracked the first ball of the 20th over towards long-off. Pandya scooped it up and fired a pinpoint throw to the striker’s end. Bethell, desperate to keep strike and snatch a second run, fell short. Wicketkeeper Sanju Samson whipped off the bails, and the danger man was gone. Despite Jofra Archer smashing three sixes in Shivam Dube’s over, India held on for the win.

Reflecting on the pivotal run-out in a BCCI TV video, Pandya revealed his mindset. ‘Life offers two paths,’ he said. ‘My heart could have raced, and I might have botched it. Instead, I switched to zen mode. I’m proud I stayed calm.’

He targeted Bethell specifically, knowing his dismissal was key. ‘I had to stay composed and throw it right where it needed to be,’ Pandya added. ‘Aimed a bit closer to the stumps, but we got the job done.’ The Indian camp erupted in celebration, with Pandya’s exuberant reaction stealing the show.

In a light-hearted twist, Pandya explained his over-the-top joy: ‘My son was there with Maahika. I wanted them to soak in the excitement and see how pumped I was.’ Earlier, Pandya’s 19th over – just 9 runs conceded – had set the perfect platform for the dramatic finish. This victory propels India towards T20 glory, with Pandya’s cool head under pressure proving decisive once again.
