Patna, March 7: In a sharp rebuttal to Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee’s controversial statement threatening to ‘cut off fingers,’ Bihar Minister and BJP leader Ram Kripal Yadav fired back, accusing TMC of undermining the Constitution. Speaking exclusively to news agency IANS, Yadav declared that the people of West Bengal will soon show TMC its true place in the upcoming elections.

Banerjee’s provocative remark came in reference to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, where he said if Kumar weren’t in a constitutional position, he would have severed his finger. This outburst has sparked widespread outrage, with Yadav questioning the propriety of such language in a democracy. ‘TMC doesn’t believe in the Constitution and hurls threats at those holding constitutional posts. Talk of cutting fingers or necks— is this acceptable in a democracy?’ Yadav asked pointedly.

Turning to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, Yadav emphasized that SIR is a legitimate constitutional process. He criticized the state government for allegedly relying on illegal immigrants to bolster its vote bank. ‘Law applies to everyone. If the Bengal government and Mamata Banerjee are uncomfortable with it, that’s their problem,’ he stated firmly.

Yadav also condemned the opposition’s no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla as unfortunate. Praising Birla’s impartiality, he noted that the Speaker has consistently upheld his duties without bias towards ruling or opposition members. ‘The opposition’s lack of respect for the Speaker reflects their petty mindset. They won’t succeed in tarnishing his image,’ Yadav asserted.

As political tensions rise ahead of key electoral battles, Yadav’s words underscore BJP’s aggressive stance against TMC’s rhetoric, signaling a fierce contest in Bengal where constitutional values are at stake.
