In a major milestone for aviation infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, the Noida International Airport at Jewar has received its crucial aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This public-use license paves the way for commercial flight operations to commence shortly, marking the end of years of anticipation for this ambitious project.

The license, issued under Rule 78 of the Aircraft Rules 1937, has been granted to Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, the entity responsible for developing and managing the airport. Announced from New Delhi on Friday, this approval confirms that the facility now meets all regulatory standards for regular aircraft landings and takeoffs.

While the license unlocks operational capabilities, it comes with stringent conditions. The airport must maintain top-tier safety protocols, anti-hijacking measures, air traffic control systems, meteorological services, and other critical infrastructure as per DGCA guidelines. Every piece of equipment, service, and procedure will undergo rigorous compliance checks.

This development is being hailed as a game-changer for the National Capital Region (NCR). Located in Greater Noida, the airport promises to alleviate congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport while boosting connectivity for Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, western Uttar Pradesh, and beyond. Enhanced air links are expected to spur industrial growth, tourism, and economic activity across the region.

Phase one of the airport is designed to handle 12 million passengers annually, positioning it among India’s largest aviation hubs. Future expansions could multiply this capacity several times over, aligning with government visions for world-class infrastructure.

With the license in hand, final preparations are accelerating. Officials are optimistic that if timelines hold, commercial flights could take off soon, injecting fresh momentum into the area’s development trajectory and transforming regional travel forever.
