CHANDIGARH: In a shocking breach of protocol, unauthorized protesters, including AAP MLAs, ministers, and supporters, stormed the Punjab Vidhan Sabha premises during a critical budget session. Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa condemned the incident as a grave threat to democracy’s sanctity.

The disruption unfolded during a Punjab Congress Legislature Party meeting chaired by Bajwa in Sector-1, Chandigarh. AAP members, equipped with musical instruments and protest gear, entered without passes or permissions, flouting all security norms.

Taking to X, Bajwa posted, ‘Punjab was first made unsafe for common people; now, the temple of democracy, the Vidhan Sabha, is also insecure. Allowing unknown individuals with materials inside without checks is a stunning security lapse.’

He accused the AAP government of desperation to divert attention from its law and order failures. ‘If the assembly itself is at risk, what hope do ordinary Punjabis have?’ Bajwa questioned, highlighting AAP’s hypocrisy in doing what they once criticized.

The Punjab government under Bhagwant Mann, he claimed, is steering the state toward ruin with zero deliverables for the public. No approvals from Chandigarh administration or the Speaker were granted for the protest, making it a blatant violation.

Congress demands a thorough probe into who issued entry passes to private individuals and strict action against culprits. With the Governor’s visit looming, this security chink raises alarming questions about governance in Punjab.
