Hampshire has bolstered its squad for the 2026 County Championship’s opening block by signing West Indies pace sensation Jaden Seals. The move comes as a direct replacement for Michael Neser, who was recalled by Cricket Australia earlier this month.
Giles White, Hampshire’s cricket director, expressed disappointment over Neser’s departure but highlighted the silver lining. ‘We’re gutted Michael won’t be with us this summer, but it opens the door for fresh talent,’ White said. ‘Jaden brings raw pace, skill, and a genuine hunger to win matches. He’ll join our West Indies contingent that’s been integral to the club for two years. We can’t wait to see him fire from the outset.’
Seals isn’t new to English conditions. He previously played 10 matches for Sussex, claiming 39 wickets at an average of 28.46. His standout performance was a 5-29 haul against Derbyshire in 2024, helping propel Sussex to Division One.
The 22-year-old made his international debut in 2021 after just one first-class game. Seals has since become a cornerstone of West Indies’ pace attack across formats, amassing appearances in 64 matches. His first five-wicket haul came against Pakistan in Jamaica, earning him Player of the Match honors.
Seals led the Caribbean pace unit and featured in the 2026 T20 World Cup, though West Indies exited in the Super 8 stage after a loss to India.
First-class cricket resumes on April 3, with Hampshire facing Essex in their opener. Seals’ arrival promises fireworks in what shapes up to be an exciting season.
