New Delhi witnessed a landmark moment in Indian sports as Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, unveiled the logo for the Cycling League of India on Thursday. This groundbreaking initiative marks the launch of the world’s first franchise-based road cycling league, poised to revolutionize the sport in the country.

Minister Mandaviya described the event as a pivotal step forward for Indian sports. ‘This unveiling is not just about starting a race; it’s about building a professional ecosystem that nurtures talent and draws global attention,’ he stated. The league aligns perfectly with the vision of a fit and vibrant India, emphasizing health and fitness among the youth.

Building on the momentum from recent professional cycling events like the Pune Grand Tour, Ahmedabad League, and the weekly Sunday on Cycle rides, this league is expected to inspire more young Indians to take up cycling. Mandaviya highlighted how these initiatives are establishing cycling as a mainstream sport in India.

The league will feature eight franchises from different cities or regions, each comprising ten cyclists, including two international riders for global expertise and two juniors to foster emerging talent. This structure ensures long-term sustainability and high-level competition.

Competitions will unfold in three phases leading to a grand finale, incorporating diverse formats such as criterium races, team time trials, and mass start events. Designed for spectator thrill, these races promise strategic battles and edge-of-the-seat action, capitalizing on the recent resurgence of professional cycling in India.
