In a significant breakthrough, Vivek Vihar police station in East Delhi apprehended two notorious auto lifters, effectively curbing a spate of vehicle thefts plaguing the area. The operation led to the recovery of a stolen black Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle from Jhilmil Colony, along with a Splendor Plus bike used in the crimes.

The suspects, identified as Akash (22) and Anoop Kumar (22), both residents of Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, were nabbed during a late-night patrol. A dedicated team under SHO Inspector Harkesh Gaba and supervised by ACP Vivek Vihar Mohit Singh had been intensifying surveillance amid rising theft complaints.

On the intervening night of February 28 and March 1, around 2 AM, constables Subhash Kumar and Chintu spotted the duo loitering suspiciously near vehicles in Jhilmil Colony. A swift interrogation uncovered incriminating tools like screwdrivers and wire cutters in their bags. CCTV footage from the area matched their faces to the February 23 theft of the Royal Enfield Bullet.

Under intense questioning, the duo confessed to multiple thefts, driven by drug addiction and financial woes. They admitted stealing the Bullet and selling stolen bikes for quick cash. Following leads, police raided Anoop’s home in Bhopura, Sahibabad, recovering the prized motorcycle. An e-FIR (04195/2026) under BNS Section 305(b) was registered at Vivek Vihar station.

Both from underprivileged backgrounds with only 10th-grade education, Akash and Anoop had evaded capture in prior incidents despite their history. This arrest not only resolves the recent Bullet theft but thwarts future crimes, restoring confidence among residents. Police continue probing their network for wider implications.
