In a surprising turn in Bihar politics, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has decided to shift gears and contest for a Rajya Sabha seat. The veteran leader made the announcement via a post on X, catching many off guard. On Thursday, he formally filed his nomination papers, marking a significant pivot in his long political career.
BJP leader Zafar Islam was quick to voice his support. ‘This is Nitish Kumar’s personal decision, and we all respect it,’ he stated emphatically. Islam highlighted Kumar’s towering stature in Bihar’s political landscape and his pivotal role within the NDA alliance. ‘He’s a big face for our coalition, and whatever he decides, we stand by him,’ he added.
Addressing speculation about the next chief minister, Islam assured that discussions would follow with the NDA leadership. He dismissed opposition criticism, questioning why they were agitated over a decision Kumar made independently, without any external pressure.
Fellow BJP leader Rohan Gupta echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the unbreakable bond of the NDA. With Union Home Minister Amit Shah present during the nomination filing, and BJP’s Nitin Nabin also submitting papers, the event underscored the alliance’s unity. Gupta pointed to the recent Bihar assembly elections, where voters resoundingly backed the NDA while rejecting the opposition.
As Bihar gears up for future challenges, Kumar’s move signals continuity in the state’s development agenda under the NDA banner. The alliance remains committed to propelling Bihar and the nation forward, undeterred by political noise.
