In a significant boost for the Ladakh Buddha Vihar community in Delhi’s Civil Lines, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stone for a long-awaited footover bridge on Thursday. This pedestrian bridge, connecting Ladakh Buddha Vihar to the Monastery Market, addresses years of persistent demands from local residents who have navigated dangerous road crossings daily.

Speaking at the event, CM Gupta highlighted the milestone, stating, ‘This is a special day as a long-standing demand of the Ladakh Buddha Vihar residents is finally being fulfilled.’ She pointed out that previous administrations had ignored repeated pleas and hundreds of applications, but her government acted swiftly. ‘When there’s political will, such projects don’t take long,’ she affirmed.

The bridge project has all necessary approvals in place, with completion targeted within six months. Once built, it will drastically improve pedestrian safety and ease daily commutes for the area’s Ladakhi families. Gupta emphasized Delhi’s role as a microcosm of India, home to migrants from every state. ‘Families from Ladakh have made Delhi their home, and it’s our duty to provide them with modern facilities while respecting their cultural heritage,’ she said.

The design incorporates elements reflecting Ladakhi culture, offering residents a touch of their roots. Local BJP leader Tashi Gyaltsen praised the initiative, thanking the CM and government for resolving a decades-old issue that will transform lives in the neighborhood.

This development underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive infrastructure, ensuring no community is left behind in the national capital’s growth story.
