Washington is pushing the boundaries of modern warfare with artificial intelligence at the forefront. In a stark revelation during a Pentagon briefing on Operation Epic Fury, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the deployment of AI-equipped autonomous systems against Iranian forces.

Hegseth, addressing reporters on Wednesday, underscored the pivotal role of cutting-edge tech without delving into specifics. ‘We have numerous autonomous systems, drones, and other platforms integrated with smart AI technology. Many details remain classified,’ he stated firmly.

This admission highlights AI’s surging influence in contemporary conflicts, particularly in drone strikes, surveillance, and target acquisition. The US operation encompasses long-range strikes, naval maneuvers, and precision airstrikes aimed at dismantling Iran’s military infrastructure.

Joint Chiefs Chairman, Air Force General Dan Cane, detailed the campaign’s initial phase, revealing over 2,000 targets hit so far. The mission’s core objectives include obliterating Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal, neutralizing its navy, and preventing rapid military reconstitution.

‘First, we’re targeting ballistic missile systems. Second, destroying the Iranian navy. Third, ensuring they can’t quickly rebuild war capabilities,’ Cane outlined. Tactics are evolving from distant bombardments to direct precision attacks over Iranian airspace, as CENTCOM shifts strategies to maintain relentless pressure.

Iranian offensive capabilities have plummeted, with theater ballistic missile launches down 86% compared to day one. Yet, officials caution the theater remains volatile. ‘These operations are complex and dangerous, far from over,’ Cane warned.

Operation Epic Fury launched this week amid escalating missile exchanges and nuclear tensions, marking the Middle East’s gravest clash in years. As AI transforms battlefields, the world watches how these ‘smart’ weapons reshape global security.
