Beijing, March 4 – In a significant diplomatic exchange, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with his Israeli counterpart Gideon Sa’ar on Tuesday, addressing escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Sa’ar briefed Wang on Israel’s current stance amid regional conflicts. Responding firmly, Wang emphasized China’s longstanding commitment to resolving international and regional disputes through dialogue and consultation. He stressed that all parties, including Israel, must adhere to the principles of the UN Charter, refraining from the use or threat of force—a move aligned with the fundamental interests of every nation involved.

Wang highlighted China’s persistent efforts over the years to achieve a political settlement on the Iran nuclear issue. He noted recent notable progress in Iran-US talks, which had incorporated Israel’s security concerns, only for the process to be regrettably disrupted. China explicitly opposes the military strikes on Iran carried out by Israel and the United States, arguing that military force does not solve problems but creates new ones with severe consequences.

‘The true value of military capability lies not in the battlefield but in preventing war,’ Wang asserted. He called for an immediate cessation of military actions to prevent further escalation. China, he reiterated, maintains an impartial stance on Middle East issues and will continue playing a constructive role in de-escalation efforts.

Additionally, Wang urged Israel to take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions. Sa’ar assured that Israel prioritizes this matter and will guarantee their protection. This call underscores the delicate balance of diplomacy amid heightened regional volatility.
