Ranchi, March 4: Cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former Indian captain revered for his cool-headedness on the field, has landed in hot water off it. Traffic police in Ranchi slapped a fine on him for overspeeding in the Kanke area, capturing his black Mercedes luxury sedan exceeding speed limits on surveillance cameras.
Under the Motor Vehicles Act, authorities issued an e-challan with a Rs 1,000 penalty for breaching the prescribed speed limit. The incident underscores that no one is above the law, not even a local hero like Dhoni, who calls Ranchi home. Neither Dhoni nor his representatives have commented officially yet.
Traffic officials emphasized equal application of rules to all citizens. Dhoni is often spotted cruising Ranchi’s streets in his impressive garage of high-end vehicles, including powerful Jeeps, Grand Cherokees, Trackhawks, Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG, Nissan Juke, and several superbikes.
This traffic mishap comes amid another scrutiny: Last week, the Jharkhand State Housing Board issued a show-cause notice to Dhoni over alleged commercial use of a residential plot in Harmu Housing Colony. Allocated solely for housing as HIG-10/A, the plot is reportedly running a pathology lab, prompting demands for a written explanation within 15 days.
As fans celebrate Dhoni’s cricketing legacy, these off-field episodes remind everyone that rules apply universally. The board awaits his response, while traffic enforcement continues unabated in the city.
