In a significant blow to India’s women’s cricket team ahead of their crucial one-off Test against Australia, pace bowler Renuka Thakur has been ruled out. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Thakur needs rest to manage her workload effectively, making her unavailable for the pink-ball Test at Perth’s WACA Stadium. Stepping into her shoes is promising all-rounder Kashvee Gautam, who was part of the recent ODI squad against the hosts.

The BCCI’s medical team will closely monitor Thakur’s fitness, ensuring she returns stronger. Gautam, fresh from the ODI series, brings youthful energy and versatility to the side. This match, set to unfold from March 6, marks the finale of India’s challenging tour Down Under.

The ODI series was a rude awakening for the visitors, who suffered a 3-0 whitewash. The third ODI in Hobart saw Australia post a mammoth 410, powered by skipper Alyssa Healy’s explosive 158. Alana King starred with the ball, claiming 4-33 as India crumbled to 224 all out, losing by 185 runs. Earlier games saw Australia clinch victories by 6 wickets and 5 wickets respectively.

Contrastingly, the T20I series offered some solace. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team edged out a 2-1 triumph, with Smriti Mandhana leading the charge—scoring 129 runs at a blistering strike rate of 134. Georgia Wareham responded for Australia with 116 runs. Indian bowlers shone bright: Arundhati Reddy grabbed 8 wickets, while Shri Charani snared 5 across three games.

As the Test looms, India aims to salvage pride. Gautam’s inclusion could inject fresh momentum, but the team must regroup after the ODI debacle. Fans are eager to see how the batting holds up against Australia’s formidable attack in the longer format.
