In a shocking incident just days before Holi, a man in Bihar’s Sheohar district lured his victim to a field under the pretense of watching the Holika bonfire preparations and stabbed him to death. The murder, driven by a decade-old grudge over his father’s electrocution, has sent ripples of fear through the local community.
Arun Kumar, seething with rage for 10 long years, finally acted on his vengeance. On Monday evening, he called 35-year-old Vinod Rai from his home in Ganga Dharmpur village, promising a quick outing to see the Holika setup. Instead, Arun led Vinod to a nearby field, where he unleashed a frenzy of knife attacks, leaving the victim dead on the spot.
The tragedy unfolded in the Tariyani Chhapra police station area. Vinod’s brother, Subodh Rai, recounted how Arun had coaxed his sibling out around 4 PM. By Tuesday morning, villagers discovered Vinod’s body in the field, sparking widespread panic. Police, led by SDPO Sushil Kumar, swiftly arrested Arun, who confessed during interrogation.
Investigations revealed a dark history. Ten years ago, Arun’s father died from an electric shock while guarding crops from wild animals in Vinod’s field. Arun harbored suspicions that Vinod was responsible, fueling his obsession for revenge. Under the influence of alcohol, he chose the eve of Holi to settle the score.
Authorities have taken Arun into custody, and a thorough probe is underway to uncover any additional motives or accomplices. The incident serves as a grim reminder of how unresolved grudges can erupt into violence, especially during festive times when communities gather. Local residents are urging better conflict resolution mechanisms to prevent such horrors.
