In a stern move to enforce discipline during festive duties, East Champaran SP Swarn Prabhakar has suspended 37 trainee constables who went absent without leave on Holi. The incident unfolded in Motihari, where these recruits were deployed from the Basic Training Centre to various police stations ahead of the vibrant festival.

Bihar Police Headquarters had issued clear directives to all Superintendents of Police, emphasizing the need for seamless security arrangements during Holi and Ramadan. Despite these instructions, attendance checks on March 2 revealed the shocking absenteeism. This lapse not only highlights a blatant disregard for superiors’ orders but also underscores a dangerous indiscipline at a time when public safety is paramount.

The official statement from East Champaran Police labels the act as a grave breach of duty. All 37 trainees have been immediately placed on subsistence allowance pending departmental inquiry. They must submit their explanations within seven days, facing potential further action.

SP Swarn Prabhakar minced no words, vowing zero tolerance for hooliganism, disturbances, or anti-social elements during Holi celebrations. Police teams conducted flag marches across the district, asserting their visible presence and urging citizens to revel in peace and harmony. ‘We are fully alert,’ he asserted, warning strict enforcement of the liquor ban and public order laws.

The district is on high alert with anti-riot gear deployed and special branches, rapid action forces mobilized. Across Bihar, 30,000 additional personnel stand ready in sensitive areas, ensuring the festival passes without incident. This suspension serves as a stark reminder: duty comes before festivities for those in uniform.
