Hyderabad has etched its name in the annals of India’s power sector history. On a sweltering Tuesday, Telangana successfully met an unprecedented peak power demand of 18,139 megawatts (MW), marking the highest ever recorded in the state’s short but dynamic journey since its formation.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka hailed this achievement as a testament to the state’s robust energy infrastructure and seamless coordination. ‘This is the biggest peak demand Telangana has ever seen,’ he declared, congratulating senior officials and every employee of the state’s power utilities. Without a single interruption, they managed this colossal demand, ensuring uninterrupted, high-quality electricity supply to homes, industries, and farms alike.

The milestone underscores Telangana’s meteoric economic rise. Despite its compact size and population, the state now rivals power giants like Madhya Pradesh (19,900 MW peak) and Rajasthan (19,600-20,600 MW). It has even surpassed industrial powerhouses such as Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh in peak demand figures. This surge reflects booming growth in IT, pharmaceuticals, construction, and irrigation sectors, driving unprecedented electricity consumption density.

Just a year ago, on March 8, 2024, the peak stood at 15,623 MW. By March 20, 2025, it jumped to 17,162 MW, culminating in this record-breaker. Vikramarka emphasized that Telangana isn’t just meeting current needs but is battle-ready for future summer peaks, thanks to a resilient grid, strategic planning, and exemplary teamwork.

From control rooms to field staff, every cog in the power sector machine has propelled Telangana forward. This success positions the state as a national benchmark, proving that visionary governance and dedicated workforce can power progress like never before.
