Rai met with senior Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad, extending heartfelt condolences. Turning his attention to New Delhi, Rai questioned the Centre’s lack of an official condolence statement. ‘It’s regrettable that such a pivotal international figure’s demise has been met with silence from the government,’ he remarked. Highlighting India’s tradition of global dialogue, coexistence, and respect, Rai argued this reticence raises serious questions.
He invoked the centuries-old bonds between India and Iran—cultural exchanges, thriving trade routes, and diplomatic rapport that have endured through history. Yet, Rai accused the current administration’s policies of weakening these vital ties. ‘India must prioritize balance and humanitarian values in its foreign policy to bolster its stature on the world stage,’ he urged.
