Dubai’s skies are cautiously reopening. Emirates and Etihad Airways announced on Monday the launch of select flights from Dubai International Airport, marking a tentative return to operations amid escalating regional tensions. The move follows a temporary closure prompted by Iran’s retaliatory missile and drone strikes on U.S. bases in the Gulf, in response to joint U.S.-Israel operations.

Emirates emphasized a phased approach, prioritizing passengers with existing bookings. The airline will directly notify those rescheduled on these limited services. ‘Do not head to the airport until contacted,’ the carrier urged in a statement, underscoring the fluid situation. All other flights remain suspended until further notice, with schedules adjusted based on real-time assessments. Updates will stream via emirates.com and official social channels.

‘We thank our customers for their patience and understanding,’ Emirates added, prioritizing passenger safety above all. Meanwhile, Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, plans repositioning flights and repatriation services—excluding cargo—under strict UAE approvals and safety protocols, in coordination with local authorities.

Dubai Airports confirmed limited operations resuming Sunday evening at Dubai International and Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International. The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority echoed the caution: stay away unless your airline confirms details, to streamline processes for everyone.

The Gulf’s airspace had slammed shut due to missile threats, stranding thousands in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha—key transit hubs linking Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Weekend reports highlighted damage to several regional airports from Iranian counterstrikes. Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways rely on this hub-and-spoke model for global long-haul connectivity.

Dubai International, the world’s busiest international airport, halted regular ops over security fears, rippling disruptions worldwide. No timeline exists for full normalization, as airlines monitor the volatile Middle East landscape closely. Travelers are advised to check official sources relentlessly.
