In a heartfelt gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the family of Thiru Purna Chandran, a devoted follower of Lord Murugan, during his visit to Madurai on Sunday. Purna Chandran’s mother, Kalishwari, shared exclusive insights with IANS, praising the PM’s compassion and commitment.
Kalishwari recounted how PM Modi personally invited them for the meeting, which included her daughter-in-law and grandchildren. The interaction was marked by utmost respect and empathy. ‘On the occasion of Deepam, the Prime Minister expressed deep condolences for my son’s passing. He promised to always look after us like a parent,’ she said.
She highlighted the unwavering support from BJP leaders since her son’s demise, expressing gratitude to all who stood by the family. PM Modi took to X, reminiscing about Purna Chandran and criticizing the Tamil Nadu DMK government for its insensitivity. ‘No matter what they do, truth will prevail, and the victory of Lord Murugan’s devotees will shine,’ he posted.
The meeting extended to Purna Chandran’s wife Indumati and their sons. Tragically, Purna Chandran took his own life last December amid protests against the Karthigai Deepam lighting at Thiruparankundram hill, defying Madras High Court orders.
Post-meeting, PM Modi reiterated that truth ultimately triumphs, targeting the state government’s handling of the devout man’s unfortunate end. This encounter underscores Modi’s personal touch in connecting with citizens’ grief, especially those wronged by political indifference.
