New Delhi witnessed a crucial dialogue between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney on Monday, as global tensions simmer in the Middle East. The leaders delved into pressing international concerns, with Iran’s volatile situation taking center stage.

Foreign Ministry Secretary (East) P. Kumaran, addressing a special briefing during Carney’s visit, revealed that PM Modi expressed profound worry over recent developments involving India, Iran, and the broader Gulf region. He urged all parties to refrain from escalating conflicts and instead pursue dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate the crisis. ‘Tensions must be reduced through conversation, addressing root causes effectively,’ Kumaran quoted Modi as saying.

Modi emphasized the importance of respecting every nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Indian missions in the region remain in close touch with citizens and community groups, issuing advisories to stay vigilant, maintain contact with embassies, and follow local security protocols.

In a joint press conference with Carney, Modi reiterated India’s steadfast commitment to peace amid worldwide strife. ‘When two democracies stand together, the call for peace grows louder,’ he declared. Highlighting West Asia’s precarious state, Modi affirmed India’s support for diplomatic resolutions and pledged continued collaboration with regional nations to safeguard Indian nationals.

This exchange comes against the backdrop of heightened hostilities in West Asia, triggered by joint US-Israel strikes aimed at crippling Tehran’s missile capabilities and military infrastructure. As the world watches anxiously, India’s voice for restraint resonates strongly on the global stage.
