In a thrilling display of resilience, Suryakumar Yadav-led Team India has stormed into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026, marking their sixth appearance at this stage. The Eden Gardens in Kolkata witnessed a nail-biting five-wicket victory over West Indies on Sunday, sealing their spot after a rollercoaster group and Super-8 campaign.
India’s campaign kicked off with a gritty 29-run win against USA. Teetering at 77/6, captain Suryakumar’s explosive 84 off 49 balls propelled them to 161/9. The USA chase faltered, handing India a morale-boosting start.
Dominance continued against Namibia, where India posted a mammoth 209/9, powered by Ishan Kishan’s 61 off 24 and Hardik Pandya’s 52 off 28. Namibia crumbled to 116, with Varun Chakaravarthy (3 wickets) and Axar Patel (2) starring.
The high-stakes clash with Pakistan saw India rack up 175/7, thanks to Kishan’s blistering 77 off 40. Pakistan managed only 114, as Hardik, Bumrah, and Chakaravarthy each grabbed two scalps.
Netherlands fell next by 17 runs, with India hitting 193/6 on the back of Shivam Dube’s 66 off 31. Chakaravarthy’s 3/14 ensured the Dutch finished at 176/7.
The sole blemish came in Super-8 against South Africa, who posted 187/7. India’s batting collapsed to 111 all out, with four ducks and Dube’s 42 the top score. Bumrah and Arshdeep impressed early, but the rest struggled.
Bouncing back, India unleashed 256/4 against Zimbabwe—the tournament’s second-highest total. Abhishek Sharma (55 off 30) and unbeaten Hardik (50 off 23) dazzled, while Zimbabwe limped to 184/6.
The do-or-die Super-8 finale against West Indies was epic. Bowling first, India restricted them to 195/4. Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 97 off 50, laced with 12 fours and 4 sixes, guided India home in 19.2 overs—the biggest successful T20 World Cup chase by India.
Now, India faces England in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on March 5. With three prior semi-final wins from five attempts, Suryakumar’s men are primed for glory.
