Guwahati is witnessing a construction boom like never before, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing that his government is laying down 13 kilometers of roads every single day. This bold claim, shared on social media platform X, underscores Assam’s rapid push towards superior connectivity infrastructure.

Since taking office in 2021, the Sarma administration has transformed the state’s transport network at an unprecedented pace. Not only are they building 13km of roads daily, but also completing five bridges every week. ‘This has brought people closer and opened new opportunities across Assam,’ the Chief Minister posted, highlighting how these efforts are knitting the state together.

The focus on roads and bridges is strategic, targeting remote and border areas to link them with major economic hubs. Officials report that travel times have slashed dramatically, boosting access to healthcare, education, markets, and government services—especially in rural and flood-prone regions.

This infrastructure surge is fueling trade, tourism, and investment. Key projects include new highways, strengthened rural road networks, and long-awaited bridges over the Brahmaputra and its tributaries. Aligning with national programs, Assam aims to become the Northeast’s gateway under India’s Act East policy.

CM Sarma emphasized that sustained investment in connectivity remains a top priority for inclusive growth and long-term economic transformation. ‘Connectivity is the foundation of an unwavering, unstoppable, forward-marching Assam,’ he declared, signaling more ambitious plans ahead.
