New Delhi witnessed a strong call for global peace from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as tensions simmer in the Middle East. Addressing a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday, PM Modi reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to stability and dialogue.

‘India’s stance is clear: we stand for peace and stability worldwide,’ Modi declared. He expressed deep concern over the volatile situation in West Asia, particularly amid the Iran-US standoff. ‘We support resolving all disputes through talks and diplomacy,’ he added, underscoring India’s proactive role in safeguarding its citizens in the region.

The leaders unveiled several bilateral initiatives to bolster ties. Key among them is the establishment of the India-Canada Defence Dialogue, focusing on defence industries, maritime domain awareness, and military exchanges. This move signals a new era of strategic partnership between the two democracies.

Terrorism emerged as a focal point, with Modi labeling it a grave threat to humanity. ‘Terrorism, extremism, and radicalism challenge not just our nations but the entire world. Our joint fight against them is crucial for global peace,’ he stated.

Reflecting on the budding relationship, Modi praised Carney for injecting fresh energy and trust since their first meeting. He highlighted shared democratic values and a common vision for humanity’s welfare, which now propels cooperation to elevated levels.

Welcoming Carney on his maiden visit to India as Prime Minister, Modi recalled the warm hospitality extended to him at last year’s G7 summit in Canada. ‘This visit marks a significant milestone in our friendship,’ he concluded, setting the tone for deeper collaboration ahead.
