In a major crackdown on organized prostitution, Ranchi Police dismantled a sex trafficking network operating across the city’s red-light areas. The operation led to the arrest of eight individuals, including the woman identified as the mastermind behind the racket.
The raids targeted hotels and rented accommodations in Lalpur, Chutia, and surrounding jurisdictions. Acting on credible intelligence, Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan mobilized a special team under City SP Paras Rana to execute coordinated strikes.
Sunday’s sweeps uncovered a sophisticated setup where the female ringleader allegedly lured young women from West Bengal and other states. These victims were housed in budget hotels and flats before being supplied to clients. Initial interrogations revealed her prior criminal history, including a previous jail term for similar offenses.
Authorities suspect the network involved over two dozen women, with communications handled discreetly via mobile apps and social media. Several customers caught in the act were also detained alongside six young women. FIRs have been registered under relevant sections of the law.
Police continue grilling the accused to map the full extent of the syndicate. This bust highlights ongoing efforts to curb human trafficking in Jharkhand’s capital, where such underground operations thrive in urban fringes. Community leaders have praised the swift action, urging sustained vigilance against exploitation.
