Shivamogga, March 1 – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strongly denounced the United States’ attack on Iran as ‘unjustified,’ amid rising tensions in the Middle East. Speaking to reporters at Shivamogga Airport, the CM assured that the state government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safe repatriation of Kannadigas stranded in Arab countries due to the escalating conflict.
Siddaramaiah highlighted the state’s close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs to secure the safety and return of Karnataka residents trapped in war-affected zones of the Middle East. He specifically mentioned that around 30 individuals from Ballari district are currently stuck in Arab nations, with relentless efforts underway to bring them back home.
‘We are in constant touch with MEA officials,’ the Chief Minister stated, emphasizing that Dubai’s airport, temporarily shut down, will facilitate their return once flights resume. He also confirmed that Indians in Dubai remain safe, including JD(S) MLC S.L. Bhoje Gowda, who contacted him from a hotel where he is sheltered.
Criticizing the US action, Siddaramaiah pointed out the hypocrisy: ‘America preaches peace but dives into war.’ He expressed condolences over the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, praying for his soul’s peace.
The CM revealed he has personally spoken with stranded Kannadigas in Dubai, reassuring them of the government’s commitment. Instructions have been issued to the Chief Secretary to maintain ongoing liaison with MEA. Notably, no proposals for electricity tariff hikes from April are under consideration, he added, calming public concerns on the domestic front.
While stranded Kannadigas have sought refuge in safe locations, Siddaramaiah urged them not to panic, vowing that every single one will be brought back safely. This crisis underscores the vulnerabilities of migrant workers abroad and the proactive role states must play in global emergencies.
