Bronchial asthma, a chronic respiratory condition, brings waves of breathlessness, chest tightness, persistent coughing, and wheezing sounds with every inhale. Triggers like sudden weather shifts, cold winds, dust, pollen, or allergens can escalate these symptoms, making even simple breathing feel labored.

In Ayurveda, asthma stems from an imbalance in Kapha and Vata doshas, leading to inflammation and mucus buildup in the airways. Fortunately, disciplined lifestyle changes, mindful eating, and time-tested herbal remedies offer substantial control over this ailment.

Diet plays a pivotal role. Patients should opt for light, warm evening meals. Avoid cold, stale, or heavy foods such as yogurt, bananas, fried items, sour dishes, and chilled drinks, as they aggravate Kapha. Instead, embrace warming options like ginger-infused water, turmeric milk, hot soups, and sips of lukewarm water throughout the day to keep airways clear.

Proven home remedies include mixing 3-5 grams of Baheda powder with equal honey twice daily to reduce phlegm and ease breathing. Kantakari root powder, taken with honey or as a decoction, similarly clears respiratory passages. For chest and back relief, gently massage with warm mustard oil blended with a pinch of rock salt.

Steam inhalation and warm saltwater gargles provide immediate comfort. Beyond remedies, shun all smoking—active or passive—and minimize exposure to dust and allergens. Maintain a clean, ventilated home and manage stress through calming practices.

Regular medical check-ups are essential. Seek emergency care for severe attacks. Integrate Ayurvedic approaches under professional guidance for optimal safety and efficacy.
