Bhopal, February 28: In a bold move to transform tragedy into triumph, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced plans to develop a sprawling science park and national research center on the former Union Carbide factory site in Bhopal. The initiative aims to repurpose the 87-acre land, scarred by the infamous 1984 gas leak disaster that claimed over 25,000 lives over the years.

Speaking after a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, Yadav detailed the comprehensive redevelopment blueprint. The site will feature a Bhopal Gas Tragedy Memorial, a convention center, a modern laboratory for national security, and a cutting-edge research hub focused on development. ‘This will honor the victims while fostering innovation and growth,’ the Chief Minister emphasized.

The state government has recently completed the transportation and disposal of hazardous waste accumulated at the factory premises, clearing the path for this ambitious project. Yadav sought Shah’s guidance on constructing a grand memorial and highlighted state events commemorating Emperor Vikramaditya’s legacy.

The discussion also covered robust actions against Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in Balaghat district, a long-affected area, alongside plans for the Baiga Mahotsav to boost regional development. On health fronts, Yadav unveiled a statewide HPV vaccination drive targeting over 800,000 girls with free doses. Farmers reeling from crop losses due to natural calamities are receiving aid post-essential surveys.

This multifaceted approach underscores Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to healing historical wounds, advancing science, and ensuring inclusive progress.
