New Delhi is on edge as escalating tensions between Iran and Israel take center stage in global headlines. With U.S. President Donald Trump announcing military action and promising liberation for Iranians, Indian opposition leaders from the Congress party have raised serious concerns about the safety of millions of Indians in the Middle East.

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, took to the social media platform X to highlight the rapidly deteriorating situation. ‘The escalating tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran are deeply worrying,’ he posted. ‘The safety of every Indian citizen in the Middle East must be our top priority. I urge the Indian government to take immediate and proactive steps to protect our people.’

Echoing these sentiments, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also used X to demand action. He expressed the party’s profound worry over the worsening conditions in the region following heightened military tensions against Iran. ‘Peace and stability in the area are paramount,’ Kharge stated. ‘We are concerned about the security of Indians in Iran and across the Middle East. The government must take every possible measure to ensure their safety and well-being.’

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh went further, criticizing Trump’s shift from diplomacy to aggression. ‘For weeks, President Trump feigned diplomacy with Iran, but prodded by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. war hawks, he’s now launched a military assault aimed at regime change,’ Ramesh wrote on X. The Congress condemns this attack and calls on the Indian government to help end hostilities immediately while safeguarding the lakhs of Indians working and living in West Asia.

Internationally, French President Emmanuel Macron appealed for an immediate halt to attacks between Israel and Iran, warning that the growing conflict poses a massive threat to world peace. Saudi Arabia issued warnings about potential Iranian strikes on Gulf nations. Macron affirmed France’s readiness to protect its interests and assist allies if needed.

As the situation unfolds, the Indian government’s response will be crucial. With thousands of expatriates at risk, swift diplomatic and evacuation measures are imperative to avert a humanitarian crisis. The opposition’s vocal demands underscore a bipartisan urgency to prioritize citizen safety amid geopolitical turmoil.
