SHIVAMOGGA: In a heartfelt tribute, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi hailed former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa as an indefatigable leader who steered the state through turbulent times with unwavering resolve. Speaking at a felicitation event in Yediyurappa’s hometown of Shikaripura on his 84th birthday, Joshi praised the leader’s relentless struggles and protests that shaped Karnataka’s political landscape.
Joshi commended the people of Shikaripura for nurturing such a formidable figure, noting how Yediyurappa’s leadership has become synonymous with the town itself. ‘His hard work and public support continue to earn him immense respect,’ Joshi remarked, highlighting Yediyurappa’s pivotal role in building the BJP from the ground up in the state.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance, the BJP has risen to become the world’s largest political party, and Yediyurappa’s grassroots mobilization was instrumental in this ascent, Joshi added. He expressed confidence that the veteran leader would continue guiding party workers and the state for years to come.
Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra echoed these sentiments, crediting Yediyurappa for producing multiple chief ministers and serving four terms himself. Born in Mandya’s Bookanakere, Yediyurappa made Shikaripura his political bastion, winning eight consecutive elections as MLA, MP, and Leader of Opposition.
The event honored leaders from over 70 communities who supported Yediyurappa’s rise. Vijayendra recalled how, as Leader of Opposition, Yediyurappa championed the cause of the poor, farmers, laborers, SC/ST communities, and other marginalized groups. His four stints as CM were fueled by millions of party workers, spiritual blessings, and public support.
During his tenures, Yediyurappa focused on delivering justice to the oppressed, uplifting marginalized communities, and prioritizing farmers’ welfare. This legacy cements his status as a towering figure in Karnataka politics, inspiring future generations.
