In a vibrant celebration of rural women’s entrepreneurship, Burhanpur district in Madhya Pradesh is hosting a two-day ‘Aajeevika Holi Mela’ on February 27 and 28, 2026, at the old Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office. Organized by the Madhya Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, the event aims to empower women through self-help groups.

Stalls brim with high-quality herbal gulal made from natural flowers, chemical-free colors derived from petals, and an array of homemade products. Crowds of locals have flocked to the fair, snapping up these eco-friendly alternatives just in time for Holi festivities.

Women entrepreneurs shared their stories of transformation. ‘We’re crafting natural, skin-safe colors that pose no harm,’ one said. They expressed deep gratitude for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives, crediting them for fostering self-reliance and amplifying the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign.

Jainu Tadvi, a dedicated member of the mission, beamed with pride: ‘I thank PM Modi from the bottom of my heart for helping us stand on our own feet. We’re now capable and independent. At our stall, we sell herbal gulal and organic manure – all completely chemical-free.’

Rajni Verma added, ‘We used to sit idle at home with no work. Now, we’re making and selling herbal colors from flowers, gaining employment and recognition. These are safe, non-toxic products. I thank PM Modi and our group for this opportunity.’

Tawati Khalko, the district officer for the Aajeevika Mission in Burhanpur, emphasized the event’s alignment with government visions. ‘This fair promotes ‘Vocal for Local’ as envisioned by our Prime Minister and Chief Minister. Women from self-help groups are showcasing herbal gulal, pichkaris, and other items. Our goal is to elevate these hardworking ‘didis’ to ‘Lakhpati Didi’ status.’

She highlighted the health benefits: Chemical-laden gulal often irritates skin during Holi, but these offerings, crafted from palash, marigold, and rose flowers, are gentle and safe. The fair not only boosts incomes but also promotes sustainable, healthy celebrations, setting a model for rural empowerment across India.
