New Delhi’s Dwarka police district scored a major win against organized crime on February 27, launching targeted operations that led to the arrest of two high-profile fugitives. These captures form part of an ongoing crackdown on proclaimed offenders and interstate liquor smugglers plaguing the capital.
In the first operation, a special team nabbed 35-year-old Rizwan, son of Irfan from Mohan Garden in Uttam Nagar. Rizwan had been evading arrest for months in a case registered under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. On January 13, the Dwarka court had declared him a proclaimed offender in case number 17222/2021.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the team under Inspector Harish Kumar’s leadership swooped down on Sector-10 on February 21. The operation, supervised by the ACP (Operations), resulted in Rizwan’s swift apprehension under BNSS Section 35(1)(D). Notably, this was his first brush with the law, as per police records.
The second bust targeted 29-year-old Prashant, son of Ram Babu, a notorious interstate liquor supplier. Tip-offs to the special staff revealed he was heading to the transport authority in Sector-10 with a massive consignment. When signaled to stop, Prashant attempted a daring escape in his Mahindra XUV 500, but pursuing officers cornered him.
A thorough search uncovered 40 cartons—equivalent to 2,000 quarters—of illicit liquor stashed in the luxury SUV. Police revealed Prashant routinely used high-end vehicles for smuggling booze into Delhi and neighboring Haryana. He already faces two prior cases under the Delhi Excise Act and NDPS Act.
Dwarka DCP Ankit Singh emphasized the role of tech-driven intelligence fused with ground surveillance in these successes. ‘These arrests underscore our relentless pursuit of criminal networks,’ he stated. Investigations continue to unravel wider smuggling rings, signaling zero tolerance for such illicit trades.
