New Delhi buzzed with tributes on February 27 as top political figures remembered Nanaji Deshmukh, the revered social reformer and Bharat Ratna recipient, on his death anniversary. Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the homage, highlighting Deshmukh’s lifelong dedication to nation-building and rural upliftment.

Shah took to X, formerly Twitter, to share his reflections. ‘From RSS to Jan Sangh and BJP, Nanaji Deshmukh made rural development his mission and remained a lifelong guide in value-based education rooted in Indian ethos,’ he wrote. His post underscored Deshmukh’s unwavering commitment to public service.

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari described him as ‘Rashtra Rishi,’ praising a life devoted to humanity and inspiration for party workers. ‘His ascetic life dedicated to national service and welfare is a beacon for all,’ Gadkari posted on X.

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called Deshmukh the architect of ‘Gramodya to Rashtrodya,’ urging everyone to follow his path for India’s reconstruction. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also paid respects, emphasizing Deshmukh’s vision for self-reliant villages and selfless service.

Deshmukh’s legacy in social organization, rural empowerment, and nationalist thought continues to shape modern India. Government schemes today echo his ideals, proving his enduring impact on the nation’s development trajectory. As leaders bowed in remembrance, the call to emulate his sacrifices rang clear across political lines.
