In a significant boost to renewable energy adoption, Bihar’s energy department honored 24 exceptional beneficiaries who have achieved zero electricity bills through solar power. The ceremony, held Thursday in Patna, also recognized 10 top vendors for installing the highest number of rooftop solar systems and five dedicated employees from the energy department instrumental in rolling out the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

The event unfolded at the Energy Auditorium in the state capital during the Solar Mela 2026, organized by PESU, Patna. Energy Secretary and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, Manoj Kumar Singh, inaugurated the proceedings with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony.

Addressing the gathered beneficiaries, vendors, and the public, Singh emphasized that national service takes many forms. ‘While some serve in uniform, ordinary citizens can contribute meaningfully too,’ he said. He highlighted the PM Surya Ghar scheme as a landmark initiative against global warming, urging widespread participation to combat climate change.

The honored solar champions received certificates of appreciation and mementos. Singh praised their rooftop solar panels as symbols of patriotism and commitment to green energy. ‘Your efforts in pollution control and promoting sustainable power reflect true dedication to the nation,’ he noted.

Detailing implementation challenges, the secretary revealed that Deloitte agency is assisting under the City Accelerated Program (CAP) in Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Biharsharif. Both central and state governments are working tirelessly to connect every household to this transformative scheme.

In pointed directives to bank representatives, Singh instructed processing of PM Surya Ghar loan applications within 10 days, without demanding unnecessary documents. He advised the public to approach local offices for any hurdles in availing the benefits.

PESU General Manager Dilip Kumar welcomed the guests, stating the solar fair would empower common people with technical knowledge, helping them select reliable vendors and companies for solar installations. The event underscores Bihar’s accelerating shift towards solar energy, promising free electricity and a cleaner future for all.
