In a thrilling encounter at the T20 World Cup 2026, India crushed Zimbabwe by 72 runs on Thursday in Chennai. While the batting fireworks lit up the scoreboard, all-rounder Shivam Dube etched his name in the wrong side of history with a shocking bowling display.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav handed Dube the ball for the first time in the 15th over. What followed was a nightmare: 26 runs hammered in that single over, the most expensive by any Indian bowler in T20 World Cup history. Dube’s two overs cost a whopping 46 runs, surpassing Yuvraj Singh’s previous record of 25 runs conceded in 2007 against New Zealand.
Zimbabwe, chasing a mammoth 257, crumbled to 184 for 6 in 20 overs. Brian Bennett starred with an unbeaten 97 off 59 balls, but lacked support. Captain Sikandar Raza chipped in with 31.
India’s bowlers shone otherwise. Arshdeep Singh claimed 3 for 24 in three overs, while Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel grabbed one each. Dube did snag a wicket amid the carnage.
Earlier, India posted 256 for 4, the second-highest T20 World Cup total and India’s record. Abhishek Sharma smashed a quick 55 off 30, Hardik Pandya fired an unbeaten 50 off 23, and Tilak Varma added 44 not out off 16. This victory keeps India’s campaign on track, but Dube’s over will be talked about for all the wrong reasons.
