In a display of warmth and accessibility, President Droupadi Murmu made a memorable stop at Manipal Tata Medical College in Baridih, East Singhbhum, following the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sri Jagannath Spiritual and Cultural Centre in Kadma.
The President graced the college’s ‘Introduction Meet,’ where she celebrated top-performing students. She posed for photographs with the meritorious scholars, engaged in heartfelt conversations, inspected the sprawling campus, and planted a tree as a symbol of growth and sustainability.
As she prepared to depart, an enthusiastic crowd gathered along the roadside, eager for a glimpse of the nation’s first citizen. Touched by their fervor, President Murmu halted her convoy, stepped out of her vehicle, and walked approximately 150 steps into the throng. The sight of the President mingling freely sent waves of excitement through the gathering, particularly among women and children. Many waved tricolors and chanted ‘President Zindabad’ in unison.
With her characteristic affection, the President greeted the public, distributing chocolates to delighted children. One young girl beamed, recounting how the President personally handed her the treat. Parvinder Kaur, a local woman, shared that she had waited hours for this moment. When President Murmu approached on foot and blessed her daughter with a chocolate and kind words, the family was overwhelmed with joy and emotion.
Security remained vigilant throughout, ensuring a smooth and orderly interaction. Local resident S. Kumar Singh expressed disbelief and pride, noting he never imagined the President would visit their neighborhood. The visit has infused the entire region with a sense of pride and enthusiasm.
President Murmu’s convoy had traversed Marine Drive, Kharkai Link Road, Mango roundabout, and Bhuiyandih en route from Kadma. College authorities revealed ambitious plans to develop the ‘Droupadi Murmu Sports and Food Campus’ on the premises, aimed at fostering holistic student development. This initiative promises to enhance physical fitness, nutrition awareness, and overall well-being for future medical professionals.
