JERUSALEM – During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s high-profile visit to Israel, a light-hearted moment captured global attention. The Indian leader posed for a selfie with the cast and crew of the hit Israeli series ‘Fauda,’ sharing the fun snapshot on his X account with a caption that had everyone chuckling.

The photo features PM Modi grinning alongside eight beaming faces from the ‘Fauda’ team, whose smiles lit up after meeting the world leader. ‘Phew! They only wanted a selfie, no undercover mission,’ Modi quipped, referencing the show’s theme of secret agents and high-stakes operations.

‘Fauda,’ one of Israel’s most acclaimed TV dramas, follows elite undercover units battling threats in Palestinian territories. Created by former IDF soldiers Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, the series blends gripping action with real-world insights. It premiered on Israeli TV in 2015 before exploding on Netflix in 2016, available with English subtitles in Arabic and Hebrew.

The show’s authenticity stems from its creators’ military backgrounds, making every raid and negotiation feel visceral. It has swept awards, including Best Drama Series at the 2016 Israeli Academy Awards.

Tragedy struck in 2023 when crew member Matam Mir was killed in action against Hamas, underscoring the thin line between fiction and the harsh realities the series depicts.

Modi’s interaction highlights strengthening India-Israel ties, blending diplomacy with pop culture. As tensions simmer in the region, such moments offer a glimpse of shared humanity amid the drama.
