HOBART, Australia – In a major boost for the Indian women’s cricket team, captain Harmanpreet Kaur is confirmed fit to lead the side in the crucial second ODI against Australia on Friday at Bellerive Oval. All-rounder Deepti Sharma provided the reassuring update during a pre-match press conference, easing concerns after Kaur’s knee injury in the series opener.

The first ODI saw India suffer a narrow six-wicket defeat, with Kaur hurting her left knee while facing Australia’s Megan Schutt. Despite that heartbreak following their 2-1 T20I series triumph, Deepti affirmed Kaur’s readiness. ‘She is fit and fine,’ Deepti declared confidently.

Reflecting on the opener, Deepti emphasized the team’s resilient mindset. ‘We played really well as a unit, even though the result didn’t go our way. We’re looking ahead and will come back stronger in the next game,’ she said. With the three-match ODI series now delicately poised at 0-1, India’s focus sharpens on redemption.

Deepti also highlighted the team’s unshakeable trust. ‘As a group, I always believe in them. We want to play our best cricket tomorrow,’ she added. On the pitch conditions, she noted its potential for spinners based on past experience, though training suggested true bounce. ‘It used to turn a lot here, but today the ball came on nicely. We’re honing our skills regardless.’

Regarding bowling strategies, Deepti kept it simple. ‘We’ll keep it straightforward like the first game. It’s up to management, but I’m focusing on my contributions to the team.’ As India eyes a series-levelling victory, Kaur’s return injects vital leadership and firepower into the lineup, setting the stage for an intense battle under Hobart’s skies.
