Bihar is set to revolutionize traffic management in its four smart cities—Patna, Biharsharif, Bhagalpur, and Muzaffarpur—with the installation of cutting-edge Adaptive AI cameras. These intelligent systems won’t just monitor roads; they’ll dynamically adjust traffic signals based on real-time vehicle density, promising a significant reduction in congestion at busy intersections.

Inspired by successful implementations in major Indian metros like Bengaluru, Delhi, Noida, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Gurugram, the Bihar Police Headquarters has forwarded a detailed proposal to the Transport Department. Once approved, the tender process will kick off swiftly, marking a major leap towards smarter urban mobility.

How do these AI cameras work? They continuously analyze traffic flow, extending green lights for high-density directions and shortening them for lighter traffic. This adaptive approach minimizes wait times and eliminates bottlenecks that plague daily commutes.

Beyond signal control, the cameras will enforce discipline by detecting 14 types of violations automatically, issuing instant e-challans. From helmet non-compliance and seatbelt neglect to mobile phone use while driving, triple riding, wrong-way driving, and red-light jumping, no infraction will go unnoticed. Authorities aim for a 25% drop in road accidents and a 50% revenue boost from fines.

In Bhagalpur, prime spots like Zero Mile Chowk, Tilka Manjhi Chowk, Manali Chowk, Adampur, Kachahari Chowk, Khalifa Bagh Chowk, Station Chowk, Tatarpur Chowk, and Nathnagar Golambar are targeted for installation. These chronic jam hotspots will soon see smoother flows, saving time, fuel, and lives.

This initiative strengthens the Smart Cities Mission, enhancing safety and efficiency. If rolled out on schedule, Bihar’s residents can look forward to hassle-free drives and safer streets ahead.
