New Delhi, February 26: Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya expressed immense joy after meeting young athletes from Kashmir on Thursday. Sharing glimpses of the interaction on social media, he highlighted how the Khelo India initiative has transformed their lives positively.
In a post on X, Mandaviya shared photos and wrote, ‘It was a matter of great pride to meet these spirited young athletes from Kashmir. Khelo India has brought decisive changes in their lives.’ He noted their commitment to contributing shoulder-to-shoulder towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India.
Since the NDA government came to power in 2014 under PM Modi, the sports scenario in Jammu and Kashmir has undergone a remarkable shift. Local talents are now shining at state and national levels, thanks largely to the central government’s Khelo India policy.
Across the region, Khelo India centers are nurturing raw talent under expert coaches, preparing athletes for national and international competitions. In Rajouri’s Sports Stadium, children aged 8 to 18 receive professional boxing training, turning the district into a boxing hub.
Gulmarg recently hosted the Khelo India Winter Games from February 23 to 26, drawing 400 participants from 30 states and UTs. This second edition on snow featured thrilling winter sports, with all six editions held in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The central government’s support is propelling Jammu and Kashmir’s sports development, fostering a new generation of champions committed to national progress.
