In a shocking turn of events at a wedding in Buxar, Bihar, joyous celebrations turned into tragedy when a jilted lover stormed the stage during the garland exchange ceremony and shot the 18-year-old bride. The incident unfolded in Chausa Nagar Panchayat’s Mallah Toli area as a baraat from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, arrived for the nuptials.
The atmosphere was festive with DJ music blaring the romantic track ‘Tujhko Hi Dulhan Banaunga, Warna Kunwara Mar Jaunga.’ Suddenly, local resident Dinbandhu Mallah, face covered with a cloth, climbed onto the jaimala platform. Before stunned guests could react, he pulled out a country-made pistol and fired at Aarti Kumari, the bride. She collapsed in a pool of blood, triggering chaos and screams.
Witnesses, including Aarti’s younger sister Nisha, recounted how Dinbandhu first recorded a video near the DJ, requested the specific song, then advanced to the stage for the fatal shot. The accused exploited the panicked crowd to flee initially.
Family members revealed Dinbandhu’s unrequited love for Aarti. He had previously threatened to derail the marriage but was dismissed. Enraged by the proceedings, he executed his deadly plan publicly.
Aarti was rushed to Buxar Sadar Hospital but, due to her critical condition, referred to Varanasi’s Trauma Center. Her survival hangs in the balance.
Nearly 14 hours later, Dinbandhu surrendered at Buxar Civil Court, confessing to a lawyer before police custody. Mufassil police station has registered a case, and interrogation is underway. The wedding feast lay untouched as grief enveloped both families, transforming a day of union into one of profound sorrow.
