New Delhi, February 26: As Team India gears up for a crucial Super 8 clash against Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup 2026, legendary spinner Anil Kumble has issued a stern warning. The match, set for Thursday evening at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, is a must-win for India to keep semifinal hopes alive. Kumble urged the players to play their natural game and not take the African side lightly.
Speaking on JioHotstar, Kumble highlighted Zimbabwe’s recent form. ‘They comfortably beat Australia, with their top four batsmen in fine touch. Pace bowlers Blessing Muzarabani and Brad Evans have been outstanding in the powerplay,’ he noted.
India’s batting has struggled throughout the tournament, particularly against spin. Despite winning all group stage games to reach Super 8, they suffered a shocking 76-run defeat to South Africa in their opener – the largest margin of defeat by runs in T20 World Cup history for India.
This loss has put immense pressure on Rohit Sharma’s men. To qualify for semifinals, India must thrash both Zimbabwe and West Indies by big margins and hope South Africa beats those teams too. Kumble emphasized individual responsibility: ‘Every player must perform at their peak. You can’t rely on the next man; go out and deliver.’
With the stakes high, India needs to rediscover its rhythm. Zimbabwe’s momentum makes this no walkover. Playing natural, fearless cricket could be the key to turning the tide in Super 8.
