New Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar police station achieved a swift breakthrough in a temple robbery case, apprehending the prime suspect and his accomplice within just 24 hours. The daring theft from a Shiv temple in Meet Nagar was unraveled, with all stolen items recovered intact.
On February 24, 2026, the station received a distress call about the break-in at the Shiv Mandir. Officers rushed to the scene and spoke with head priest Ashok Dikshit, 75, who recounted locking the temple on the evening of February 23. The next morning, he discovered the lock shattered and valuables missing, including puja items and cash.
An FIR was promptly registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Inspector Ved Prakash, the SHO, led a meticulous investigation, scrutinizing clues from the crime scene. Their efforts zeroed in on a suspect, leading to the arrest of Harbir alias Kala Baccha, 27, son of Jaipal.
Under intense interrogation, Harbir confessed to the crime. Acting on his leads, police raided and nabbed Dilshad, 37, from Nand Nagri, who had bought the stolen goods. The entire haul was retrieved from Dilshad’s possession.
Further probes revealed Harbir’s extensive criminal history, with seven prior cases involving theft, excise violations, and NDPS Act offenses. Both accused are in custody as investigations continue. This rapid response underscores Delhi Police’s commitment to curbing temple thefts and boosting community safety.
