ISLAMABAD – Tensions within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have escalated as Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khanum, publicly rebuked the party’s leadership for their handling of the former prime minister’s medical treatment. Speaking at a press conference outside the Islamabad High Court, Aleema expressed deep frustration over the lack of transparency surrounding her brother’s health while he remains incarcerated.
Accompanied by her sisters Uzma and Noreen Khanum, Aleema highlighted the family’s primary concern: Imran Khan’s deteriorating condition. She insisted that no medical decisions should be made without his explicit consent, a protocol she claims the party has ignored. The outburst comes just a day after a contentious follow-up treatment for Khan, which PTI leaders had shrouded in secrecy, leaving even family members in the dark.
Aleema recounted a recent statement by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who claimed on February 17 that Khan had received proper care. Yet, PTI leadership failed to confirm the specifics of this treatment, fueling suspicions. ‘Why can’t anyone deny or confirm what treatment was administered?’ she demanded, accusing authorities of bypassing the list of doctors provided by the family and ignoring their preferred hospital.
The controversy has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition, who continue to demand swift hearings for Khan’s pending cases. Aleema didn’t hold back on naming absent PTI heavyweights. ‘Where are Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Latif Khosa, and Barrister Ali Zafar? Why aren’t they fighting these cases?’ she questioned, pointing to a perceived leadership vacuum.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afriidi also appeared at the court, attempting to meet Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar amid the growing uproar. As family and party lines blur, Khan’s health saga underscores deeper fissures within PTI, raising questions about unity at a critical juncture for Pakistan’s political landscape.
