Bengaluru erupted in political buzz on Wednesday as Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara addressed the growing speculation surrounding the chief minister’s position. Responding to demands from his supporters for him to take the helm, Parameshwara firmly reiterated his loyalty to the party’s high command.

In a candid interaction with journalists, the seasoned leader emphasized that such matters are not for public streets but for closed-door deliberations. ‘The high command will deliberate on various aspects and take the final call,’ he stated, underscoring the established protocol within the Congress party.

Parameshwara dismissed any notion of indiscipline, calling himself a ‘disciplined soldier’ ready to abide by the leadership’s verdict. He questioned the need for public posturing, noting that proposing his name wouldn’t alter the process. ‘No one can say such demands are wrong,’ he added, acknowledging supporter enthusiasm without endorsing street-level campaigns.

Highlighting his proven track record, Parameshwara pointed to his eight years steering the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), crediting himself for twice propelling the party to power. His tenure as deputy chief minister further bolsters his credentials, he argued, insisting his capabilities are beyond dispute.

The minister clarified no recent meetings with key figures like PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi or former minister KN Rajanna, distancing himself from rumored alliances. On potential Delhi visits, he affirmed his independence, citing his educational institution ties and readiness to meet top leaders like Rahul Gandhi or Mallikarjun Kharge as needed.

As internal frictions simmer in Karnataka Congress, Parameshwara’s measured tone signals a push for unity, leaving the ultimate decision squarely with the central leadership. Party observers watch closely, anticipating high command’s move amid rising tensions.
